Mariano Marovatto – Brazilian writer, musician, and researcher of literature, sound, and culture

Mariano Marovatto is a Brazilian author, musician, and cultural researcher known for his work at the intersection of experimental music, literary criticism, and archival practice. He is the author of The Invisible War of Oswald de Andrade (A guerra invisível de Oswald de Andrade, Todavia, 2023), as well as poetry and nonfiction books such as Estirâncio (2019), Inclusive, aliás, Casa, and Legião Urbana: As quatro estações (2015).

As a singer-songwriter, he has released three independent albums—Selvagem (2016), Praia (2013), and Aquele amor nem me fale (2010)—which blend traditional Brazilian sounds with avant-garde experimentation. His discography invites a form of critical listening that plays with genre, authorship, and emotional tone, often navigating the space between nostalgic aesthetics and technological saturation.

In literary research, Marovatto is recognized for his work in genetic criticism, archival studies, and the re-editing of unpublished or forgotten works. He curated the archive of poet Cacaso, edited Poética by Ana Cristina Cesar, and organized books by Daniel Jonas, John Cage (Silence, Brazilian edition), and Julieta Barbara, among others. His work contributes to discussions around Lusophone literature, poetic legacy, and literary heritage preservation.

From 2009 to 2016, he wrote and hosted Segue o Som, a music show aired on Brazilian public television (TV Brasil), that reframed the work of Brazilian musicians through collisions with diverse global sound references.

Marovatto holds a PhD in Brazilian literature from PUC-Rio and is currently a postdoctoral researcher at UFRJ, focusing on the life and work of modernist author Rosário Fusco.
